At midnight I got a bunch of text messages wishing me a Happy New Year. But the one that meant the most to me was the one from Haggs. I texted him back and told him I was watching us beat Sun Valley (and knocking the bra off of “Fat Bitch”) in the game that clinched our first playoff spot. Haggs had made three diving stops at shortstop for us this game and hit a whistler up the middle that had Fat Bitch covering his head and doing a little dance as it screamed by him.
Haggs texted me back and said “It was all for the VH Family.”
This great Blog we have here has been all about words up to this point. I did my best to try and convey the magic of Verdugo. About all I have had to work with up to this point was words, and a few pictures. But as you know….”A picture is worth a thousand words.” We now have the images that will say alot more than words could ever say. And after watching this tape, it has become pretty obvious that Verdugo Hills indeed is a Family.
It really came across on the tape. Guys picking each other up. No egos. Great shots of the parents. Nance. The Brancheaus. Don Workman. The Birs. And what would a Verdugo tape be without a running commentary from one of the greatest Verdugo fans of all-time….Rusty Fielder. The things Rusty would say were priceless. “Hey Blue how about you and me right now?” Awesome!!!! Ahhhh Rusty Fielder!!!!
Just incredible. The Verdugo Hills Family. You could really see on tape how everyone was allowed to be an individual. Just to be themselves.
Yes-sir-ree. The Verdugo Hills Family. I’m proud to be a part of it.
I really want to give a heartfelt thanks to all of the players and parents of The Verdugo Hills Family. What a great chapter it was for all of our lives. We had four seasons of glory. But if I was to pick ONE of those years that I would have given anything to have video footage of….it would have been 1992. And that is the video that is sitting next to me as I write this. I truly am the luckiest guy on earth!!!!
I can’t tell you how fired up I am about this Tape. And I can’t tell you how awe-inspiring it is that all of these years later, we’re STILL a family.
Thanks to all of you. Happy New Year.

AH!!!!!!!!!!!
